- Participate in the definition and implementation of solution prototypes & proof of concept trials as well as support internal and external demonstrations.
- Identify development tasks required to meet project goals and work with a team to assign those tasks to various team members
- Accurately estimate development time tasks and meet the expectations
- Produced well-reasoned and clean implementation code
- Advise on adherence to standards, industry best practices, and open-source trends to ensure that Ciena is delivering the highest quality solutions internally and to our customers.
- Record of significantly chipping in to software development projects including the ability to implement new features and address bug fixes
- Hands on experince on programming languages: Golang/ Python
- Experience with concurrent and distributed program techniques
- Good communications, presentation, and influencing skills, with a collaboration-first attitude able to work across multiple teams in the company and industry.
- Self-starter, team-oriented, and able to deal with ambiguity with a bias for action in a collaborative environment.
- Not afraid of new technologies or areas outside their down main experience
- Telecom industry standards & open-source communities: ETSI, TMF, IEEE, LF Networking, CNCF, ONF, TIP.
- Layer 2, 3, and 4 network technologies
- Exposure to distributed control systems design, high availability, data synchronization, and associated network protocols.
- Experience with compute and network virtualization & container technologies (Linux KVM, OpenStack, VMWare, Docker, ETSI NFV, and CNCF CNF)
- Experience with modeling & declarative languages and tooling: Netconf/YANG, TOSCA, YAML, Helm, Terraform, Ansible.
- Experience with cloud-native technologies, microservices-based design, cloud systems such as AWS and GCP as well as container management systems such as Kubernetes and CNCF ecosystem.

Role Description
The CTO edge cloud and open networking team is looking for a software designer to assist with the implementation of CTO projects and investigations; potentially including contributions to industry open-source projects, internal prototypes or proof of concept demonstrations, and production code contributions.
The successful candidate will be able to work in a flexible work environment and easily switch between projects as CTO priorities and directions shift. They will be a self-starter as well as an individual that can proactively supervise their own tasks given their current project and goals of that project.
